Breakthrough are delighted to announce that from the start of April 2023 we will be providing all therapy and support services for FREE!
This change has been a long time coming, and is the result of a considerable amount of hard work behind the scenes over the last year to get the charity to this point.
For the last 10 years Trauma Breakthrough has provided low-cost specialist counselling, therapy, groups and support for people whose mental health has been affected by trauma and abuse, including specialist programmes for victims of trafficking and modern slavery, early-intervention support following incidents, a service for male survivors of sexual abuse, and a range of wellbeing activities adapted for those in mental health crisis.
The charity has supported the community throughout the pandemic and other times of crisis following local incidents.
As a small charity, there has been a small fee for some of these to cover some of the basic costs of running mental health support services.
But Breakthrough has seen a rise of over 2000% in the number of people being referred to our services since the start of 2020.
And the needs of those individuals has increased due to the cost of living crisis and limited support available locally. So if there was ever a time to take a risk and make a big change in order to support those we work with, it’s now.
Trauma Breakthrough’s CEO Giles Lascelle said:
“This is something we have wanted to do for a very long time. The help available on the NHS for those affected by trauma is extremely limited, and most people have to wait months or even years to be seen. It has never seemed right that survivors of trauma and abuse should have to pay to get the mental health support they need, and with the current cost of living crisis, many of the people we help are struggling to make ends meet. They have nothing left over to be able to make a contribution towards the cost of the support they receive from us. Providing our help free of charge is going to stretch our limited resources, but we feel it is of vital importance.”
The help we offer still costs money to provide, and so we will be running a number of fundraising campaigns over coming months to help cover the costs and meet the demand, and we’d love the support of the local community to help make this happen and keep these vital services available for those who need them. These support services are life saving for those accessing them.
And we can only do what we do with your help…
